The Financieele Dagblad (FD) is the Dutch equivalent of the Financial Times. The FD focuses on economic news, including in-depth background reports and analyses. Along with material from their own journalists and photographers, they make use of reports from press bureaus (such as Reuters or ANP) – receiving over 3,000 articles and images each day.
Business News Radio
BNR (part of the FD Mediagroep) prides itself on providing the most ‘up-to-the-minute’ radio news service in the Netherlands. BNR reports on news from both home and abroad, the financial world, politics and sport.
NIA: an up-to-date system
Up-to-date and accurate content is the number one priority for both the FD and BNR. An editorial system that can effortlessly keep up with events is therefore essential…a system that can process all the incoming press feeds (articles and images) and distribute them in real time to journalists within seconds.
Working together with the FD, we designed and developed an editorial system that meets their specific needs: the NIA (News, Image and Audio Archive). NIA uses a Sybase™ database to store images, text articles, audio and video files, continuously importing incoming press bureau articles and images. It includes a news archive, saving copies of articles and images that are ready for publication, or that have just been published.
Flexible and versatile
The NIA is easily accessed using a web browser. It includes many standard editorial tools, including a text editor, meta-data editor and spell checker, as well as customized methods for searching, merging and comparing article contents. In short: the NIA gives the FD journalists fast and secure access to all their news articles and multimedia files.
